We are about 2 weeks away from the AEA annual meeting in Anaheim, CA and the opportunity to meet and talk with each other.

The Health Evaluation TIG Business Meeting will be on Thursday Nov. 3rd from 6:10PM to 7PM. We'll take care of TIG business first and then have a demonstration session from Kearston Ingraham (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) who will talk about the development and use of the Web-based Indicator Progress Tracking System (WiPTS). This program is an innovative multi-faceted program management and evaluation tool designed to track statewide programmatic activities, provides a centralized location for monthly data entry, program management, technical assistance services, and data analysis which can be used by program managers and evaluators.

Following the TIG business meeting and presentation, we will have a TIG dinner at the Jazz Kitchen (http://www.rbjazzkitchen.com/) with seating that overlooks the revelry of Downtown Disney. Dinner prices are between $18-25.00. I have a reservation at 8PM for 15 people and I will take a list of names of those who want to go to the TIG dinner during the business meeting. After dinner, we'll have an opportunity to experience Downtown Disney including the Disneyland Fireworks.

Southern California Sexual Health Collaborative - Sexual Health Roundtable

The Southern California Sexual Health Collaborative would like you to attend the Sexual Health Roundtable in Los Angeles at the Cal Endowment on September 29, 2009 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The address is: 1000 North Alameda Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 across the street from Union Station in Los Angeles. This event is FREE; however, no food will be provided (there is a cafeteria on-site). This event is a time to share programs, ideas and best practices with colleagues across Southern California who are working to improve the sexual health of youth and adults in the region.

The American Evaluation Association invites evaluators from around the world to attend its annual conference to be held Wednesday, November 11, through Saturday, November 14, 2008 in Orlando, Florida. We are fortunate to be at the world class Rosen Shingle Creek Resort, providing us with a beautiful venue and context for learning from one another as well as building in some time for relaxation and fun. AEA's annual meeting is expected to bring together approximately 2500 evaluation practitioners, academics, and students, and represents a unique opportunity to gather with professional colleagues in a supportive, invigorating, atmosphere.

Question: How many evaluators does it take to change a light bulb?

Answer:
one to do a needs assessment
one to do a feasibility study
one to do a qualitative study to find out what bulb to change
one to empower the bulb to change
one to tender a contract for further study
one to write performance indicators for success
one to do a cost benefit analysis to determine the best to buy
one to do a meta-evaluation showing that all previous studies have left everyone in the dark
SO.......how many evaluators does it take?
None, actually. Evaluators don't change bulbs, that's an implementation problem!

Evaluation RFP: National Forum for Children and Nature

The National Forum on Children and Nature (Forum) requests applications to administer a center with the primary task of conducting program evaluations of the Forums sponsored programs.Growing awareness of the benefits of nature contact and outdoor recreation has spurred programs and projects designed to increase contact with nature. The scientific justification for these initiatives is based on the emerging evidence suggesting a connection between nature exposure and health. One of the most exciting of these initiatives is the National Forum on Children and Nature, launched in June 2007, and housed at The Conservation Fund.
